Latest Updates on TikTok Ban read here to answer your quetion is tiktok getting banned?
Tiktok has lost the battle against the US law on the change of ownership in court – but it remains unclear whether the video app will shut down in the USA from Sunday. US President Joe Biden wants to leave the implementation of the law to his successor Donald Trump. Trump, in turn, asked for time to think about the situation to analyze the situation. Future National Security Adviser Mike Waltz had already held out the prospect of measures to keep Tiktok available in the US for the time being. According to its own information, the app has more than 170 million US users.

Unclear situation before deadline on Tiktok Ban
The U.S. Supreme Court hearing on Tiktok ban proceeded & supreme court upheld the law on Friday, on the basis of which the China-based Bytedance Group must part ways with Tiktok. It did not violate the freedom of speech enshrined in the constitution, the judges ruled in summary proceedings.
The 270-day deadline for the sale provided for by law expires on Sunday. Theoretically, this means that Tiktok must be kicked out of the American app stores of Apple and Google on this day and lose access to infrastructure. US companies that provide Tiktok with services will then face penalties by law. According to a media report, Tiktok was considering pulling the plug itself on Sunday.
At the same time, the US Department of Justice said on Friday that the implementation of the law would be “a process that takes place over time”. All of this allows the interpretation that American companies could remain unpunished even if they let Tiktok remain available. However, it remains to be seen whether the statements offer enough legal certainty for this.
Deadline extension actually only for sales talks
Meanwhile, the US president can extend the deadline by 90 days – but by law only if there are promising sales negotiations. Bytedance and Tiktok have so far categorically refused to consider a separation.
In the U.S., there are warnings that the Chinese government could gain access to Americans’ data via Tiktok and influence public opinion in the U.S. The companies deny the allegations.
Trump wants more time for deal
Trump announced on Friday that he would make his decision on Tiktok “in the not too distant future”. He also addressed the topic of Tiktok during a conversation with Chinese President Xi Jinping on Friday. Another sign of how highly the platform is now in his favor: According to media reports, Tiktok boss Shou Chew will be present at Trump’s inauguration on Monday, as will the heads of the major American tech companies.
In a video on the platform on Friday, the Tiktok boss thanked him for wanting to “work with us” to find a solution that would keep the service available in the US.
Security concerns in the USA
Tiktok always emphasizes that Bytedance is majority owned by international investors – but due to its headquarters in Beijing, the parent company also has to bow to the requirements of the authorities. In addition, the government can have a say in a sale: because the algorithm that selects the videos for users was developed in China. And Beijing prohibited the distribution of such software without special permission. In its ruling, the Supreme Court referred to the security concerns.
